Der 90. Geburtstag oder Dinner for One
It is German New Year´s Eve - tradition to watch at least one time "Der 90. Geburtstag oder Dinner for one" (The 90th birtday or Dinner for one).
Germany has nine so called "Third Programms" which are specific for each region of Germany, and each of it send it at least one time over the evening, mostly two or three times. If you have cable or satelite-TV you can view nearly everyone of the nine local stations so it´s possible to watch the whole evening this sketch which has a duration of 18 minutes.
There are one main version in english, but many local dialect variants of it as well, f.e. in lower german, saxony, cologne dialect and so on. Since 1988 it´s "the most frequently repeated TV programme ever" (Guiness Book of the records). I have take a look at the tv guide and count how many times it was shown this year - well, I counted 11 times the english original, added by 8 times in different dialects and - because it´s the 50th year of the sketch - even three different titles about Dinner for one and his fascination.
So you can mention that nearly all Germans will known the plot of this sketch, and most of them watch it anyway, every New Years Eve again. And, well, some of them are acting simultanous during the sketch, drinking when Miss Sophie is drinking, and - hicks - well, get drunken over the time (and I said, there are many versions of this sketch, lol).. :*)

After viewing the sketch it´s time to get out and do some fireworks.
Firework - Video, Hamburg St. Pauli (Germany)
And how this is looking in my area you can view at youtube - I had made another video of it: youtu.be/NQaD3jkCilc - another one from 2008-09: youtu.be/0kauY91K9rg
It´s something like the apocalypse here because - well - I´m close to the classical nightlife district where it seemed like the whole city is comming to take of their rockets...
So - happy new year, ipernity!
