Moon Flower Seed Pod & Seeds (+(PiP)

Moon Flower Seed Pod & Seeds (+(PiP)
I'd never heard of this plant until my neighbours cut one down and were going to thrown the remains in the bin. It was cut down because apparently it had never flowered. On investigation it seems the Moonflower is a species of night-blooming Morning Glory, native to tropical and subtropical regions of North and South America, so it's not surprising it didn't like being in southern England :-))

Anyway, before it went in the bin, I snipped off two seed pods, one of which I cut in half and this photo is what it looks like, inside and out. This is about twice life size.

In the PiP is an even closer shot of the seeds. Thanks for looking.

Ronald Stachowiak, Nouchetdu38, Berny, Ulrich John and 23 other people have particularly liked this photo

If there are seed pods it means it bloomed... so why don't you try to plant the seeds?
Love your presentation.

I've never seen or heard of this one Keith. I guess it needs warmer climes than ours! The information you give us is brilliant, right down to the actual size. It makes a beautiful picture and the colour and detail are superb.....as always! An excellent PiP as well. Of course, I had to look it up and it does bear a striking resemblance to Morning Glory!

Thanks Rosa.............I found it quite fascinating when I managed to get it cut open (I needed a large, sharp knife (and the seed pod was so sharp I had to use gloves). I was pleased with the photos though........and I'm glad you like them as well.

Enjoy the rest of the week.

Hartelijke groeten, Frans.

Thanks for the information Frans.......I had no idea they were poisonous. Luckily I washed my hands after handling the seed pod..!!

Glad you like the photo though!

Eine außergewöhnliche Pflanze. Wenn sie Früchte trägt, muss sie auch geblüht haben. Aber nachts hat das wohl niemand gesehen.

It' s very similar to the seed pod of Datura stramonium ,.
Keith Burton club has replied to Ronald Stachowiak club
It is indeed Ronald. This one is more egg-shaped I think and the lay-out of the interior is different. I'm no expert...........I'm just looking at images on-line.

Unfortunately the flower was thrown out, so I doubt I'll ever see one again :-))

Thanks for taking the trouble to drop in and leave a comment!
