Langstone Harbour, Hampshire

Langstone Harbour, Hampshire
Taken mid-morning yesterday which was another cold day. This is about as sunny as it got.

The history of the silhouetted wreck is unknown, but is it is likely to be the remains of a cargo vessel that would have transported milled goods from the Old Mill, which is just out of shot on the left.

If you view large, you can just make out the silhouetted shape of a cormorant on the end of the wreck (which I didn't see until I got the image on my computer :-)

The cormorant camouflaged itself well and became part of the wreck

The soft colours are really delightful Keith. I love the pink hues! The wreck is nicely silhouetted and quite unusual not to know the full history of the wreck, but I guess there have been many over the centuries. The cormorant was a nice surprise :-)

Another superb shot from Langstone Harbour.

Thank you very much Rosa............it was a really lovely moment.........almost like dusk, but about 4 hours too early ;-)

The wreck probably didn't even have a name, they were very basic vessels apparently, sort of barge-like.

I was surprised to see the cormorant...........I didn't spot it fly in (or out)........but I didn't have the right lens for a shot anyway.

A rather nice shot Keith. These old wrecks are always interesting and normally tell the local story of long ago. Thanks for mentioning the cormorant, I would have missed it first glance.

Cheers. Herb

Thank you mate............glad you like this one. As you know, Langstone Harbour is one of my favourite haunts.

In days long gone by, this harbour would have been full of boats carrying stuff from the mill, plus oysters, mussels and winkles plus coal.

Great photo which looks so good, even with the so-so sky. It has been bitterly cold here this last week too. Temperatures from +4c down to -3C but I wish I had a car, then I could have gone down to the sea because the sun was out most of the time.

Thanks Jenny, I'm pleased you like the photo.

Langstone Harbour is one of my favourite places to go for photography, especially when I don't have too much time. It's only a 10 minute drive from home.

I used to walk it regularly, but those days are long gone. I have reached the stage of my life where the further something is from the car, the less photogenic it seems :-)))

Das Bild hat eine sehr schöne Lichtstimmung! Den Kormoran habe ich sofort erkannt. Mittlerweile sind sie bei uns im Binnenland sehr häufig an Flüssen oder Teichen zu sehen.
