Privet Hawk Moth (Showing my hand for scale)

Privet Hawk Moth (Showing my hand for scale)
Last week, I went to visit my friend Ajophotog (on IP) who had kindly set out his moth trap the night before. We spend quite a while photographing, identifying and then releasing them. Great fun! The highlight for me was this magnificent Privet Hawk Moth.......I hope you like it as much as I do. (Photo credit Ajophotog - using my camera and hand)!

Andy Rodker, , trester88, Eunice Perkins and 7 other people have particularly liked this photo

Got to hand it to you Keith :) -you are good at this nature macro business. We rarely see these hawk moths up here and I must agree it looks pretty magnificent. -Your friend Ajophoto knows how to handle your camera and lens too. Well done -to you both. ~ Herb

I have to admit that if a moth comes indoors I usually run out until someone has caught it and taken it back outside. However, I have never had one like this indoors and find it really fascinating. The colours and pattern are incredible, but I will leave it to you and your friend to handle them and bring us such marvelous pictures (both).

You are of the same opinion as my wife Rosa.............she has a real phobia about moths! That's why I have to go to someone else's house to do this sort of thing.

Having this one in my sleeping room at night would scare me a little bit, Keith :)

I'd never manage to let a moth sit on my hand, I'd run away screaming;-) The big ones I just try to catch in a glass and release outside, the smaller ones get murdered before they eat my clothes or foodstuff...
