For two or three years I had an old flower box devoted to mosses and liverworts. Sometime this year, it started producing leafier plants and then a a flurry of flowers: cornflowers, little poppies, Linaria, and others. This is the latest unbidden one, blooming still today, nearly mid-October. It's about three cm across (and deep into its cup).

I don't know for sure how this floral conversion happened. I suspect, though, that i poured an old (and unknown) mixed seed packet into it. Duhhh.

Through the magic of social media, I have found out this is Godetia, a member of the evening primrose family.
