Flower Box

Richard and I are spending the weekend in Toronto.
We escaped from the convention for a few minutes, and I found these neat flowers on an unexpected balcony.
CN Tower

From inside SkyDome (well, Rogers Centre). The Yanks beat the Jays tonight....

Roundhouse
|
|
Old CN roundhouse, with coaling and water tower ruins, Toronto. The Canadian National Railway used to have an enormous rail yard near downtown Toronto, which is marked by the CN Tower and partly occupied now by the SkyDome (Rogers Centre). This roundhouse, and a much smaller yard, are all that remain.
You can see Lake Ontario in the background.
The picture's a little noisy largely because I shot it through a window.

Excelsior

Excelsior Light & Power, Port Huron. My thanks to Mark Davidson, whose grandfather Wilbur Davidson built this structure and brought electricity to Port Huron, for identifying the building. Sadly, it's been demolished....
=================
Darryl Wattenberg dropped me a note the other day; one of his questions (or comments, I suppose) was about Port Huron's Desmond Landing. I replied that I hadn't been anywhere on Port Huron's south-of-the-river waterfront in many years.
I was there briefly today, almost by accident, after our long wait to cross the bridge back into the U.S. Captured this picture during our brief stop.
This building's right by the track , on the Black River, and that office overlooks the C&O (originally Pere Marquette) Ferry Yard.
An interesting railside structure.
Ferry Yard, and the ferry slip which justified its existence, has been sold to a developer and will be pulled up. At this time the entire complex sits abandoned. Not so long ago it was a vibrant place, with cars and ferries in constant motion.

Another photo of the roundhouse alongside SkyDome (Rogers Centre). Not sure why the sky isn't blue in this photo, but that's the way my camera caught it.
Grand Ledge
|
|
Alley in downtown Grand Ledge, Michigan; parallel to but north of Bridge Street. The building on the right is the Log Jam; to the left are the rears of the Bridge Street shops. The brickwork is exceptional.
My car's peeking out from behind the pickup truck....

Harbor Springs, Michigan. Almost too picturesque to be real....

Manitowoc Waterfront

This was the view from SS Badger as we waited to leave. The old warehouse is kinda neat, and I like the fire escapes.

Kewaunee, Wisconsin, waterfront

Taken from the Kewaunee breakwater, out by the lighthouse . An interesting array of buildings; slightly active on this Monday morning.
Submarine in Wisconsin
|
|
Cobia, on display at the Wisconsin Maritime Museum in Manitowoc.
The local shipbuilders constructed 28 subs during World War II; although this particular sub was built in Connecticut, it's of the same family as the Manitowoc ships. Moreover, Cobia was stationed in Milwaukee for about a decade (National Guard work), so there is a genuine Wisconsin connection.
The only other time I was in Manitowoc was the day the sub was first opened for public display, back in (I think) 1986. That was just accidental.
For the record: This is among the finest museums I've visited, on any subject, in any place. Easily justifies a visit to Manitowoc.
Shot from SS Badger.
Harbor Springs

Another scene from our visit to Harbor Springs (MI) a few weeks back. Lots of texture here, which shows better in the larger size.

Lansing Sunset

Shot from Oldsmobile Park. That large building is the Board of Water and Light's retired downtown power plant.
