That's an astonishing portrait. Her gaze seems dignified and vulnerable; it seems to pose a question: why are you taking this photograph? Why are you looking?

The way her face is positioned and lit: half-turned towards the viewer, half in shadow, half in light, with a touch of light shining on her earring....seems painterly...and loving.
