Somerset Coast
Shades of Brown,
After days of constant rain silt from the many rivers that flow into the Bristol Channel has turned the water brown. However the colour suits the dereliction that is Birnbeck Island and it's pier that links it to the mainland.
The good news is that a group which includes North Somerset Council, Historic England and the RNLI,who were forced to abandon the lifeboat station on safety grounds in 2008. have now bought the whole complex with a view to restoration, but what a job that will be. (pier built in 1867)
The island of Flat Holm complete with lighthouse (rear left) and the coast of South Wales in the far distance.
Large please, Wish you HFF and a safe weekend.
Sunbeam.
A shaft of sunlight on the bay and North Hill, Minehead to the left of the image
A Fight for Survival, HFF
It's a difficult life for a tree when the strong and cold Atlantic winds blow through the Bristol Channel especially when they are on the high ground of Exmoor., The coast of South Wales is across the channel.
HFF and take care !
Down to the Beach, HFF.
Typical of the Bristol Channel coast with the high sea wall and steps for access to the beach, this is a low tide image looking east at Blue Anchor with the red cliffs in the distance a site of regular coastal erosion which is now claiming property,
On the horizon are the islands of Steep Holm and Flat Holm plus the promontory of Brean Down (16.9 Format)

Sun, Sky and Sea
The evening sun finds a break in the clouds to highlight the waters of Bridgwater Bay,
Mud Berth
A small fishing boat basking in the evening sun while waiting for the tide to lift it from the harbour mud.
Look Out.
Bossington Beach, note the coast guard look out tower viewing the Bristol Channel from the headland, another point where Exmoor meets the sea and sea defences were abandoned a few years ago to allow a salt marsh to form..
The walkers in the note give an idea of size
Sea Defence
Showing the height required to hold back the sea which has a huge tidal range in Bridgwater Bay and a lone fisherman trys his luck on the receding evening tide.
Appreciate a large view please.
Our Local Branch.
