The lone phone, standing in its place for two, in my suburb together with its shrunken posting box. This phone can be called on +61 7 4635 5219. June 2019.

PiP, an earlier image when there were two phones here.

Hello Graham,it amazes me that you have a phone box let alone a post box as well. I can't even recall seeing either in my area.
I didn't know a phone box could be called.
A great find. Regards Peter

These are 5 minutes walk from home Peter. Additionally there is a corner shop to the right. Look at the previous photo with the 2 phone cabinets to see the carpark for the shop between to photographer and the cabinets.

Phone boxes have always had numbers though sometimes they were set at the exchange so only the phone company can call them. I found the number by calling my mobile from it. As a first year trainee tech I had a fortnight's work at my local suburban Sydney's exchange and acquired the numbers of the two boxes at the railway station. This knowledge had both money and fun benefits.

Nice bright red street furniture Graham.

Phone boxes are becoming very rare nowadays in the UK now. In many rural villages where such service was discontinued in the past, the local people adopted them for use as a 'book exchange'.

More recently redundant village phone boxes are often fitted with a medical defibrillator.

Australian posting boxes are all this red colour David. We still post letters here occasionally. When a public phone is withdrawn the entire thing disappears, I have never seen a repurposed phone box in Australia other than when someone has bought one from a clearance auction for a garden 'ornament' etc.

I have noticed so many phone booths recently, since I saw your previous photo, great that they are free call within Australia. I am going to start collection photos of them :-)
Fine red combination.

Thanks Gillian. They'll probably be gone in their current form one day, and good to know people are learning about telecoms infrastructure.
