Palais

We had lunch at this splendid venue, on our 2019 to Adelaide, South Australia. It has a very modern interior, but still retains the impressive gantry bar in the upstairs bistro. It happened to be the hottest day on record while we were in Adelaide 46.6C, slightly cooler at the coast. The Maris Palais... This nostalgic relic of balmier days was built in 1922 by the Fricker Brothers on a 21-year lease. It was comprised of a beach kiosk, bathing pavilion and large dance hall. At ground level, the Bathing Pavilion provided lockers and showers, as well as the hire of bathing costumes, beach shelters, etc. The first floor housed the café, tearooms and dance hall. A number of clubs met regularly at the Palais, and in later years the building was used by the Semaphore Surf Life Saving Club. For many years, the reinforced concrete structure stood in derelict condition, but was renovated in the early 90’s, maintaining its distinctive 1920’s architecture and reopened as the The Semaphore Palais Hotel & Function Centre. semaphoresa.com.au/history

Glenelg

Jetty Road, Holdfast Bay. Standing 35 metres high, the Observation Wheel is the tallest portable wheel of its kind in Australia, with 24 gondolas each seating up to six people. A very enjoyable trip to Adelaide, South Australia. Moseley Square is a public square in the City of Holdfast Bay at Glenelg, and was named for Henry J. Moseley, the builder and first publican of the Pier Hotel, Glenelg. Located between Jetty Road and Glenelg Beach, the Square is the location of the Glenelg Town Hall, Glenelg Jetty, the Stamford Grand Hotel ... It is the terminus of the Glenelg tram line.

Adelaide Airport

On our recent trip to Adelaide, South Australia. 7.55 am on the morning of our departure. Adelaide Airport is an impressive and pleasant place. ... an efficient medium-sized airport that earned the honour of being the second best airport in the 5 to 15 million passengers category at the 2007 Airports Council International Awards. The unveiling of terminal T1 in late 2005 has given the airport an overall feeling of being new, light and airy and is easily negotiated given it now houses all regional, domestic and international flights. Effectively, it's a one-stop shop for air travel. Adelaide Airport is currently the fourth largest domestic airport and sixth largest International airport in Australia and accommodates in excess of 5.4 million passengers annually. www.drivenow.com.au/travel-centre/adelaide-airport-guide.jspc HFF 23 February 2024
