2000 Conquero at RQYS Manly

30 Aug 2000 17 11 83
Our last boat, Cavalier 32 Yacht "Conquero" (built 1981). We sailed around Moreton Bay and joined the RQYS (Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron) cruising group, mooring in the sheltered anchorages. Brisbane, Queensland, Australia Sold in 2001, last seen in Bateman's Bay, NSW. The Cavalier 32, affectionately known as the “Cav32″, is perhaps the best production cruiser to be produced in New Zealand, and certainly one of the most successful. Right from the get go, when Sea Spray magazine in July 1971 took the first production boat for a sail they were impressed by both the spacious interior, berthing up to eight, and its on-the-water performance; noting it was fast, responsive, incredibly close-winded and with good acceleration. The boat went on to compete very successfully as an ocean racer with a half ton rating, eventually finding its place among the cruising community as a comfortable and reliable blue water vessel. Many have cruised the South Pacific extensively, while others have circumnavigated. History Designed by Bob Salthouse in 1969, the prototype Cavalier 32 made its debut at the 1970 Auckland Boat Show. The concept was for a hull with high racing potential; a boat that would be satisfying to race inshore as well as offshore, yet have family-size cruising accommodation. It immediately proved popular with 14 boats sold by the time the first boat was launched in Jul 1971. bluewaterboats.org/cavalier-32/

Caloundra Lighthouses

30 Jun 2015 12 14 79
The Caloundra Lighthouses, constructed in 1896 and 1968 respectively, provide a rare opportunity for comparison and demonstrate the evolution in marine navigation along the Queensland coast over 100 years. Twenty years before the existence of the first light (Moreton Bay Pile Light, Brisbane), a deep water shipping lane into Moreton Bay and the Port of Brisbane known as the North West Channel, was sounded. The channel went from Caloundra Head along the eastern shore of Bribie Island and soon became the most used entry into the port. In shipping terms this made Caloundra’s position strategically important… The old Caloundra Head Lighthouse is the oldest building in Caloundra… The precinct was listed on the Queensland Heritage Register in 2010.

Allan Border Oval, Mosman

20 Nov 2022 16 18 96
We went down to Sydney, for the weekend, to the cricket ODI match Australia v England at the SCG. The day afterwards we had lunch with a friend in Mosman, and strolled past this historic cricket ground. CREMORNE-BORN and Mosman-raised cricket legend Allan Border has reflected on a childhood "full of good memories" where sport was life. "I had a pretty idyllic childhood growing up in Mosman," he said. "I lived across the road from Mosman Oval (now Allan Border Oval), so it was cricket in the summer and baseball in the winter." The ICC Cricket Hall of Fame member, who defined toughness during a career forged against the fearsome West Indies pace bowlers, said it all began at Mosman Cricket Club... dailytelegraph.com.au January 2014 HFF 25 November 2022

Meet Bella, our latest family member. West Highland White Terriers have been part of our family since 1983. Ian was looking for a Westie online, when he found a photo of Bella and her two siblings. Bella was born 6th July 2022 in Glen Innes, New South Wales, Australia. She is a West Highland White x Jack Russell Terrier. This makes her a "Jack Highland Terrier". The traits of the breed are - cheerful, affectionate, and alert, full of energy, loyal to their pack of family members. They’re intelligent and can easily be trained. Independent, frisky and fun-loving. www.hepper.com/westie-jack-russell-mix She has settled in well, is very happy, and absolutely full of energy. She loves our cat Dora, and our Westie, Angus. Bella is a joy. 285. - 26.11.2022 A picture and your story
