A friend suggested it might be better to go for a pre-owned year, which made me laugh :-) It might be more reliable. Anyway, wishing everyone a happy and healthy one... We didn't stay up til midnight but I was woken by our cat Dora, so captured this in the early hours - our Christmas deck lights. Sunday challenge

Mushrooms

20 Jan 2022 12 17 128
Sunday challenge - your mission this week is mushrooms/fungi anyway you like, wild, shop-bought, cooked, raw! Just as well I decided to take this, as the mushrooms were almost past their use by date, so had to cook them right away... see PiP. TSC 521

TSC Wabi-Sabi - the impermanent nature of all things ... at Manning Point ... between the blue waters of the Manning River double delta and the golden sands of the Pacific Ocean. An outing, with lunch at Old Bar. The Manning River is the only double delta river in the southern Hemisphere and the only permanent multiple entrance river in the world other than the Nile River Egypt.

Sunday challenge - Chinese elements. Five Elements Theory is a Chinese philosophy used to describe interactions and relationships between things. The five elements — wood, fire, earth, metal, and water — are believed to be the fundamental elements of everything in the universe between which interactions occur... Five Elements Theory first appeared during the Spring and Autumn Period (770–476 BC). It became widespread: mostly used in Chinese medicine, philosophy, fengshui, fortune-telling, and martial arts. chinahighlights.com

thinking of Ukraine

25 Mar 2022 13 9 105
Extracts from Global Conflict Tracker Last updated March 25, 2022 Armed conflict in eastern Ukraine erupted in early 2014 following Russia’s annexation of Crimea... One month later, in March 2014, Russian troops took control of Ukraine’s Crimea region... Armed conflict in the region quickly broke out between Russian-backed forces and the Ukrainian military... Beginning in February 2015, France, Germany, Russia, and Ukraine attempted to kickstart negotiations and broker a cessation in violence through the Minsk Accords... In April 2016, NATO announced that the alliance would deploy four battalions to Eastern Europe, rotating troops through Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Poland to deter possible future Russian aggression elsewhere in Europe, particularly in the Baltics... In September 2017, the United States also deployed two U.S. Army tank brigades to Poland to further bolster NATO’s presence in the region... In January 2018, the United States imposed new sanctions on twenty-one individuals–including a number of Russian officials–and nine companies linked to the conflict in eastern Ukraine. Ukraine has been the target of thousands of cyberattacks... In October 2021, Russia began moving troops and military equipment near its border with Ukraine, reigniting concerns over a potential invasion... By December, more than one hundred thousand Russian troops were in place near the Russia-Ukraine border and U.S. intelligence officials warned that Russia may be planning an invasion for early 2022. In mid-December 2021, Russia’s foreign ministry issued a set of demands calling for the United States and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) to cease any military activity in Eastern Europe and Central Asia, to commit against further NATO expansion toward Russia, and to prevent Ukraine from joining NATO in the future. The United States and other NATO allies rejected these demands and warned Russia they would impose severe economic sanctions if Russia invaded Ukraine... Since Russia launched a full-scale military invasion into Ukraine on February 24, 2022, fighting has caused over nine hundred civilian deaths and pushed millions of Ukrainians to flee to neighboring countries—the majority of whom have arrived in Poland, a NATO country where U.S. troops are preparing to offer assistance to refugees. cfr.org/global-conflict-tracker/conflict/conflict-ukraine Sunday challenge - Blue and yellow

June 2022-Farewell to TSC

21 Jun 2022 9 16 117
Sunday challenge - finale I joined the Sunday Challenge in mid May 2014, and have thoroughly enjoyed the camaraderie and banter in the group, ably led by Wendi, Chris and Frags, and various supporters through the years. It is such a shame to see the group closing, but completely understand. Such a fun ride, especially learning how to "urk" :-) So here is an image selected from each year 2014-2022, with a bonus "urk" thrown in from 2018. I believe that, in the group context, it means to have a whinge :-) Incidentally it is also a town in the Netherlands, dating back to the 10th Century. Very best wishes to Wendi, Chris and Frags, for future health and happiness. Images 153, 203, 250, 299, 315, 333, 358, 430, 471, 540
