Palace of Versailles 1994

Palace of Versailles 1994
B&W conversion of an old scanned photo taken on our trip to UK/Europe in 1994.

Palace of Versailles c1664
Wanting to escape the busy life in Paris, and to keep the nobility under his control, Louis XIV built this chateau in which he set up home and installed the government. Louis Le Vau was commissioned to renovate and extend an old hunting lodge, Le Notre created the gardens from swamp land, and Mansart masterminded the hydraulic display of the fountains.

A lovely image, Gillian. I suspect it's not possible to take a shot there without crowds. :)

Thanks George. The first time I visited Versailles was on a school trip in 1969 and there were crowds then :-) I guess if you arrived at dawn you could avoid the crowds. I like the crowd in this shot as they show the size of the place.
