In All Circumstances, Give Thanks

In All Circumstances, Give Thanks
"Failure is an event, not a person". - Zig Ziglar

We either succeed or we learn.

When I sit in the presence of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and give thanks for life and every breath I take, I realize how much it's more about the big picture of things and less about me.

"In all circumstances, give thanks, for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus." - 1 Thes. 5:18

Thanks for reading.

This makes me stop and look. Its as I've just stepped into the space. it seems a bit bleak: uncurtained windows, tiled floor, bare walls, a covered radiator, a hint of a bench to sit on.

The figure of Christ seems colourless, attenuated, in shadow, placed by the door, perhaps next to the light switch. Then there's the wonderful comic touch of the metal door closer/dampener which the angle makes into what looks like a halo!

The title influences the way we see the image: "In All Circumstances, Give Thanks". To me it seems to say...Even here, even in this bare, light-bleached room, give thanks.

And the way Christ's hand gesture is there, silhouetted, brings a layer of interpretation : it seems to say "Wait, I'm about to speak." A gesture of blessing? Or is he going to reach out and switch off/on the light?

I get a sense that the will of God is a real mystery. Is God here in this bleak room? "In all circumstances" the title seems to lead us to the answer...even in this almost empty room, yes.

I like this a lot. An unconventional devotional image.
