this photo by John FitzGerald

I wasn't standing in the road. It narrows past the intersection.

I told it several times: Like your compositions very much: With the strength of upward lines and the cars in a row at the bottom. And the grey car on the right is so well placed. Good Morning, John. I hope you understand what I mean. Sometimes it's difficult to explain things in another language.

I'm pretty sure I understand, Ulrich, and thank you very much.

We like to be on the go in Toronto, Gerard, even if we don't know where we're going.

A nicely geometric scene, invoking duality. (How's that for pretentious drivel?) Two orange traffic lights, very well placed to lead the eye, two red cars, two very similar buildings in the middle distance - there are probably more that don't shout out at first glance. And I do like the human figure in silhouette at the very left - one touch of humanity in all this. What does it all mean? You got me there.

A very good analysis, Bob. Thanks to you and Ulrich I think I have a better understanding of it now. My photos rarely mean anything, and I'm quite sure this one doesn't. I took this five years ago, but I recall only thinking that if I didn't include the surface of the rod it would look cool. In those days I was keen, too, on having structures on three sides of the photo.

Thanks, George. I'm thinking I should go back to this type of composition.

Thanks, Denis, This is one of the many flat expanses of North America. When I'm out in the country I'm often struck by how much it looks like Norfolk, but with silos replacing the ancient church towers.
