The making of a wine goblet - Part III

The making of a wine goblet - Part III
After the body of the goblet has been blown and shaped, a molten portion of glass, called a gather, is attached to the bottom. While still soft, it is stretched to form the stem of the goblet. Once the stem has the correct height, another gather of glass is placed at the end. The gather is shaped to form the base of the goblet and heated to prevent cooling until it has been worked into its final form.
