2014 United States National Figure Skating Championship - Novice Pairs Short Program

Non-professional photographers were limited to a 6 inch 200 mm lens which meant slow glass and high ISO. Grainy shots were inevitable.

They had to perform to the judges. The audience in this space sat on the other side of the judges so we saw lots of backsides of skaters. Accredited photojournalists were allowed to shoot from the corners and ends of the rink, but the public was limited to shooting from their seats using a lens of not more than 200mm and not more than 6 inches.
