Are these birds for sale? It doesn't look like a legal operation. I hope the parrots are well looked after.

So do I. In general, Taiwan has a comprehensive set of lwas and regulations and the people tend to obey them very well. So I suppose this was legal - but I must admit that this is just an assumption. We encountered this scene by accident on our way to the subway station.

It is a strange custom. Poor creatures.

I assume that it what it is. In China, Singapore, and in ethnic Chinese communities across Asia, people go out from their apartments on weekends with their pet birds....in cages, or like this with bigger birds to parks and green spaces. The birds are placed next to each other: there are tall poles for cages to hang. The birds sing and’talk’ while the owners chat too. I am assuming that these are pet macaws and that this is what is happening. I hope it is not some sale yard.
Even here in Australia there are a few licensed breeders who breed captive macaws for sale within the country.

That'sa not quite like we saw it. The birds were flying and returned, and I don't think there was any sale going on. On the other hand, I don't speak or read Mandarine, so I could not figure out any details.
