Further east of Diamond Crater is French Barn, an enclosed corral that was built circular so that horses could have exercise area in the winter. The barn blends in with the scenery and is difficult to see from afar -- it is in the lower right quarter of the picture.

The historic hotel in Frenchglen has a restaurant with two communal tables -- the times I ate there, there were about 10 of us at each table. Everyone was very friendly, talking about how they ended up in such a remote place. The food also was very good, and reasonably priced.

Frenchglen, a very remote village with a hotel with a famous restaurant. Meals are served family style where you might be eating at one table with 10 other people that you don't know. The food is wonderful and since you're all together in a remote location where there is nothing else to do, the fact that you never knew the person sitting next to you becomes unimportant.

Grasmere, ID -- all of it. It's listed on maps as a location and distance signs on the highway would make you think there's a place there. But, this is it. The empty road and vast space, though, was worth it.

Hart Mountain peaks. Hart Mountain is a antelope refuge, though I saw no antelopes (and almost no other humans) on the drive across.

This is looking east after crossing the highest part of the mountain. The eastern side was very dry with no woods. (Almost the same spot as an adjacent picture taken at a different time)
