Springer, NM Mills Mansion (# 1104)

Springer, NM Mills Mansion (# 1104)
The Mills House (referred to locally as the Mills Mansion) is on the edge of Springer. The house is listed in the National Register of Historic Places (link below). The house was built by Melvin Mills who was a prominent businessman and politician when New Mexico was just becoming a state. The house, built somewhere around 1877, is described as notable not only for its size but its interior elegance and the design of its two story stairway. It is described as being an integration of French Academic, Greek Revival, and Territorial (the porches) design.

The house was converted into a hotel at some point in recent history, but clearly at this point it was not open. There was a ‘for sale’ sign out front when I saw the house.
