Lake Crescent WA Adirondack chairs (#1436)
The first time I visited Lake Crescent, some time in the 1970's, I immediately felt as if I had been dropped into the Adirondacks of upstate New York. The dark blue of the waters and the heavy forestation down to the shore line were very similar to what I had seen in the Adirondacks and nearby areas. Adding to that sense of being in rural upstate New York are these classic Adirondack chairs, a style which was first created in the early 1900's by a man vacationing in the Adirondack mountains.

There's an intepretive trail right in the vicinity of the lodge that includes some history you'd find interesting. I don't remember the details, but there was something about a logging railroad built after the US entered WW I, which became obsolete almost immediately after the war ended. IIRC it was for timber for aircraft.

Well at least the chairs got rearranged! I didn't take that trail, but do recall coming across a placard with similar information about a railroad. From here I headed north on a very winding road that looked suspiciously like it had been based on an old railbed.

IIRC the line is now a trail along the shore directly across the lake. It'd probably be a great bicycle trail if they're allowed!

Btw, thanks for the background on the chairs. I didn't know that design had a special name and history!

My father was born on the southern edge of the Adirondacks (I'm not sure where), which is why I knew the chairs had a specific reference.
