There were a number of older buildings in Coulterville that had been converted to restaurants and bars. Probably because I was traveling midweek in early Spring, these were largely deserted.

How busy does this get during the tourist season? Is this a popular route around the Yosemite area?

I think this is fairly much a back road way for Yosemite all of the time, that much of its traffic is 'cottage' seasonal. There were a surprising number of weekend/vacation cottages scattered through the hills between here and Yosemite, which probably results in relatively heavy weekend traffic.
