Berlin Trabants (#2132)

Berlin Trabants (#2132)
A group of Trabants, the car built by East Germany -- no, they didn't build them in these colors (See: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trabant )

Trabi World is a commercial, guided, tour where you drive your own Trabant.

Note also the Aeroflot building in the background, this was taken near the Russian Embassy.

In my youth, I remember reading a series of articles in some magazine like Car & Driver from a couple of car reviewers who somehow got their hands on a Trabant, which were never street-legal on U.S. roads, but they took it cross-country anyway. Car guys considered Trabants to be particularly bad cars, one step below the Yugo with frames made of tissue paper and with safety equipment slightly worse than what you'd find in Niagara Falls barrels. I've always wanted to drive one.

There's your excuse for going to Berlin, to drive a Trabant on Trabi World tour (I won't tell Robin).

That is funny! Perhaps even worse than the 1960 Ford Anglia I owned in 1967. I don't know why after only 6 years it was in such bad shape. Worst car I ever drove, pieces fell off weekly including the gear shaft, needed ether to get the engine started, constant double-shifting, hole in the floor through which I could see the road...but also hilarious and a real adventure to drive. After that Anglia, I felt I could drive anything - even a Trabant.
