Driving off the rails onto the road seems simple, but clearly he has to be careful about distance from the road so that the rear wheels don't accidentally slip off the rails too soon. Also see adjacent picture regarding changing from rail to road wheels.

I've had a mix of that fantasy combined with a fear of somehow slipping off the rail wheels, getting stuck on the tracks, and run over by a train :)

There's a great movie chase scene that could be done, with a truck trapped on the rails trying to stay ahead of the locomotive! Maybe it's been done--my acquaintance with the movies is spotty at best.
