Boyle Heights: Hollenbeck Park (2565)

Lake and shelter, Hollenbeck Park. Per one website, the structure is a boathouse and at one time canoes could be rented for use. The park was created in 1892 and photos from the 1920's show the same boathouse and lake that is here. The apparent serenity of the park is somewhat misleading. On the left side of the picture you can see a wall -- that is part of the I-5 freeway. Hollenbeck Park is in the Boyle Heights area of LA, a poorer and largely Hispanic neighborhood southeast of downtown.
