Carrizo Plain National Monument: San Andreas Fault 1101

The San Andreas fault runs along the east side of the monument. This picture is taken at Wallace Creek, where earthquakes have, over many centuries, altered the creek (which drains west out of the mountains) so that it appears to make a sharp turn to the north at about where I'm standing, and then a sharp turn to the west.
