Friday 5 July 2019 – During the period of closure of Mill Road Bridge for railway maintenance, service 2 which links Cambridge North railway station to the City Centre and Addenbrookes Hospital or Sainsbury’s, would normally travel via Mill Road and the Mill Road bridge. In order to serve the Mill Road communities either side of the closed bridge shuttle services were provided. Service 2A ran from the City Centre to Mill Road on the west side of the bridge and service 2B ran from Sainsbury’s into Mill Road on the east side of the bridge. Stagecoach in Cambridge (Cambus) 44006 (BV66 GRZ) is seen turning from Mill Road to Gwydir Street when working service 2A from the City Centre. In order to turn round for the return journey the shuttle buses on this side of the bridge travelled via Gwydir Street, Hooper Street and Kingston Street in order to reach Mill Road and return to the City Centre. 44006 initially ran on services in Ashford, Kent before moving to South Wales.

Friday 27 September 2019 – From September 2019 to April 2020 a project to construct the UK’s first ‘Dutch style’ roundabout at the intersection of Queen Edith’s Way/Fendon Road/Mowbray Road in Cambridge is being carried out. Explanation of this may be seen via this link www.cambridgeshire.gov.uk/residents/travel-roads-and-parking/transport-projects/cycling-&-pedestrian-improvements/fendon-road-and-queen-edith-s-way-roundabout As a result of this construction work Stagecoach service 2 has a revised format. Normally buses travel along Mill Road to Brookfields/Brookes Road/Perne Road and turn left to perform a double run up to and back from Sainsbury’s before continuing to Wulfstan Way and Addenbrooke’s Hospital. Service 2 operates every ten minutes between the city centre and Brookfields. The revised format sees alternate journeys either turn left and run to Sainsbury’s where they terminate or turn right and operate to Wulfstan Way where they terminate. No service 2 buses run through to Addenbrooke’s. The timetable advises passengers to change to a service 1 bus at Cherry Hinton Road/Derwent Close to complete such a journey. Service 1 also operates every ten minutes. Service 114 operated by A2B Bus and Coach (Mondays to Fridays) and Big Green Bus Company (Saturdays) remain unchanged and are operating normally through to Addenbrookes although there are only four trips each way and no Sunday service. In this view taken from on board A2B KX08 HMF we see Stagecoach 27852 (AE13 DZY), an Alexander Dennis Enviro300D new in May 2013, standing in Brookfields waiting to turn right into Perne Road on a working to Wulfstan Way. The Sainsbury’s bound services would turn left here.

Friday 27 September 2019 – Stagecoach bus services 1 and 2 traversing the roundabout at Queen Edith’s Way and Fendon Road in Cambridge are facing diversion (Sept 2019 to April 2020) as a result of modifications as part of the creation of the UK’s first ‘Dutch style’ roundabout. Explanation of this may be seen via this link www.cambridgeshire.gov.uk/residents/travel-roads-and-parking/transport-projects/cycling-&-pedestrian-improvements/fendon-road-and-queen-edith-s-way-roundabout This bus stop in Fendon Road is normally used by Cherry Hinton bound service 1 buses and city centre/Chesterton etc bound service 2 buses. Neither are using this section of road during the construction works. (Service 1 still operates past here heading towards Addenbrooke’s Hospital but uses a different route when operating towards Cherry Hinton), Service 2 isn’t running through to Addenbrooke’s but is terminating at Wulfstan Way (Queen Edith Chapel). The timetable advises passengers to change to a service 1 bus at Cherry Hinton Road/Derwent Close to complete such a journey. Service 1 also operates every ten minutes. Service 114 operated by A2B Bus and Coach (Mondays to Fridays) and Big Green Bus Company (Saturdays) remain unchanged and are operating normally through to/from Addenbrookes in both directions although there are only four trips each way and no Sunday service. Alternative temporary bus stops are sited a short distance behind the camera.

It would normally have emerged from the turning on the right but that road being closed off means buses approach the roundabout along Mowbray Road directly beyond. Buses towards Cherry Hinton take a different diversion.
