Friday 8 July 2022 (1043) – First Eastern Counties Buses (Ipswich Reds) 69010 (AU05 DMY), a Wright Eclipse Urban bodied Volvo B7RLE new in March 2005, lettered for the ‘Mainline 66’ which runs from Ipswich Railway Station to Martlesham Heath. This service utilises the short length busway track at Kesgrave.

Friday 8 July 2022 (1043) – First Eastern Counties Buses (Ipswich Reds) 69007 (AU05 DMO), a Wright Eclipse Urban bodied Volvo B7RLE new in March 2005, seen close to Ipswich Railway Station working service 66. Service 66 runs from Ipswich Railway Station to Martlesham Heath and utilises the short length busway track at Kesgrave. The guide wheel and arm are quite visible in this shot as the bus makes a left turn.

Friday 8 July 2022 (1032) – Buses at the Old Cattle Market Bus Station, Ipswich. Left to right: Ipswich Buses 57 (PN52 XBJ), an East Lancs Myllennium Lowlander bodied DAF DB250 new in October 2002. The ‘PN’ (Preston) series registration was applied by East Lancs when the bus was built. The ‘XBJ’ letters forming the remainder of the number are coincidentally very much at home in Suffolk where ‘BJ’ was issued in Ipswich in the old pre-2001 system. Friday 8 July 2022 (1102) – Ipswich Buses 44 (YR61 RRZ) seen in Dogs Head Street, Ipswich working service 15A, a clockwise circular service serving Pinewood and Maidenhall in the southern suburbs. It is a Scania N230UD Omnicity that had been new to Centrewest (London) as their SN36041 in October 2011. For a number of years Ipswich Buses named all of its vehicles but now only a few carry names. This bus is named ‘Sir Alf Ramsey’ who had been the iconic manager of England’s national football team and of Ipswich Town Football Club.

Friday 8 July 2022 (1113) – Ipswich Buses 36 (YR61 RUC) seen turning in to Tower Ramparts bus station, Ipswich working service 6. It is a Scania N230UD Omnicity that had been new to to Centrewest (London) as their SN36054 in October 2011. For a number of years Ipswich Buses named all of its vehicles but now only a few carry names. This bus is named ‘Kevin Beattie - ITFC No. 6’, a footballer at Ipswich Town Football Club who died from cancer at the age of 64 in 2018. (Appropriately here running on route number 6).

This cross town service takes approx. 36 minutes to link two Park & Ride sites running from London Road (on the west side of the town) to Martlesham (on the east side of the town). This cross town service takes approx. 36 minutes to link two Park & Ride sites running from London Road (on the west side of the town) to Martlesham (on the east side of the town). (Advertised timings are 13 minutes from London Road to the town centre and 23 minutes from the town centre to Martlesham). The former maltings building in the background is thought to date back to the 1820s and was owned by the Ipswich based maltsters and brewers R & M Paul. It became a venue for a number of nightclubs in more recent times but is now a multi-occuped office building.
