Saturday 29 September 2018 (1303) - The Delaine Running Day at Bourne, Lincolnshire. KTL 780, a Willowbrook bodied Leyland PD2/20 new to Delaine in April 1956 as fleet number 45. Now part of The Delaine Heritage Trust Collection. It was seen prior to working 1320 heritage service to Stamford. The service operated every 30 minutes over the day and this was the second of three round trips 45 covered (1050, 1320 and 1550 returning from Stamford 40 minutes later). I travelled this (1320) departure back to Ryhall near Stamford.

Now part of The Delaine Heritage Trust Collection. It was seen arriving back at the Delaine premises after working the 1050 heritage service to Stamford/1130 from Stamford. The service operated every 30 minutes over the day and this was the first of three round trips 45 would cover (1050, 1320 and 1550). I travelled on the 1320 departure back to Ryhall near Stamford.

Two preserved buses from The Delaine Heritage Trust Collection seen at work on the heritage bus service run between Bourne and Stamford as part of the Running Day. The service operated every 30 minutes from 0920 to 1620. KTL 780, a Willowbrook bodied Leyland PD2/20 new to Delaine in April 1956 as fleet number 45, was about to leave for Stamford on the 1320 service. This was the second of three round trips 45 covered (1050, 1320 and 1550 returning from Stamford 40 minutes later). In the background is RCT 3, a Yeates bodied Leyland PD3/1 new to Delaine in July 1960 as fleet number 50, had arrived back from Stamford. This was the second of three round trips 50 covered (0920, 1150 and 1420 returning from Stamford 40 minutes later). I was fortunate to travel on both these buses today travelling from Ryhall to Bourne on 50 returning on 45.

It was seen at Ryhall near Stamford when working the Bourne to Stamford heritage service forming part of The Delaine Running Day. The service operated every 30 minutes over the day. It was seen working the 1320 service from Bourne due at Ryhall at 1341 and Stamford at 1351. This was the second of three round trips 45 covered (1050, 1320 and 1550 returning from Stamford 40 minutes later).

Delaine vehicles have incorporated a number of bodywork features for many years like the cut aluminium fleet name lettering riveted on the side panels. The body mouldings infilled with red material have contrasted well the blue and cream paintwork and have been applied to include downward dips in the moulding lines. This is the fleetname applied to RCT 3, a Yeates bodied Leyland PD3/1 RCT 3 new to Delaine in July 1960 as fleet number 50. Now part of The Delaine Heritage Trust Collection.

The service operated every 30 minutes over the day and this was the first of three round trips that 50 covered (from Bourne at 0920, 1150 and 1420 returning from Stamford 40 minutes later). This was the 1000 from Stamford on which I travelled to reach the event.

Saturday 29 September 2018 (1100) – The lower deck emergency window on Delaine 50 (RCT 3), a Yeates bodied Leyland PD3/1 new in July 1960. The bus has folding doors on the rear nearside entrance/exit and is fitted with a full height emergency door out from the rear of the bus at the bottom of the stairs as well as this window immediately behind the driver's cab. The feature shown here was more common in earlier times but by the late 1950s was less so. Note how the aperture ventures into the area of the cream band and also the number of different pieces of red infill in the moulding strips. After many years sterling service this bus is now part of The Delaine Heritage Trust Collection and was seen at The Delaine Running Day at the Bourne garage.

After many years sterling service this bus is now part of The Delaine Heritage Trust Collection and was seen at The Delaine Running Day at the Bourne garage.

After many years sterling service this bus is now part of The Delaine Heritage Trust Collection and was seen at The Delaine Running Day at the Bourne garage. For many years Delaine vehicles featured body mouldings that gave their buses a different look, almost a trademark, like the inward sloping mouldings on the front panels as shown here plus downward dips in the mouldings along the side panels all of which were infilled with red material providing a contrast blue and cream paintwork.
