Southern National 934 (VDV 134S) at Portland Bill – 9 Aug 1984 (X845-7)

Thursday 9 August 1984 – Southern National Omnibus Company 934 (VDV 134S), a Bristol VR with convertible open top Eastern Coachworks bodywork, seen at Portland Bill on a service from Weymouth. It carries the name of the novelist and poet Thomas Hardy who based most of his writings in the Dorset area.

It had been new to the Western National Omnibus Company in November 1977 and in later years was preserved. In the Spring of 2023 it was added to the heritage fleet of A2B Travel Group.

(This was my first experience of using a 35mm camera after years of using ‘point and click’ snapshot cameras so the quality is very poor. The camera, on loan with the option to purchase, turned out to have a shutter problem which wasn’t helpful. Since this was a not repeated family holiday the opportunity to do any better was missed).
