Vernon Road bus garage in Scarborough – 21 Aug 1987 (55-22A)

Friday 21 August 1987 – The former United Automobile Services garage in Vernon Road, Scarborough passed to the ownership of East Yorkshire when the National Bus Company reorganised the United/EYMS operating areas. The Scarborough & District name adopted by EYMS can be clearly seen over the doorway.

The garage was unusual in its construction in that it was built on a hill. The main floor, visible through the doorway, accommodated both double and single deck vehicles and was the location of the maintenance pits and washing facilities. There was a lower floor garage area which could only accommodate single deckers and was accessed through a much smaller doorway further down the hill on Vernon Road.

By the early 1990s the building had become a car park run by the Palm Court Hotel and using the available height over the main floor area an extra level for additional car parking was incorporated.
