The sign of the Five Bells pub is mounted on an unusual - and quite substantial - brick pillar which the website of the Suffolk Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) states: ‘The massive Tudor brick post holding the sign is said to be all that remains of the entry to a long demolished stately home. Not only is the pub itself a Listed Building; the pub sign is also Grade II Listed. The building was constructed in several phases in the 16th and 17th centuries’.
