Burtons Coaches S50 BCL in Cambridge - 3 Jul 2006 (563-1)

Monday 3 July 2006 (approx. 0840) – Burtons Coaches S50 BCL, a Caetano Compass bodied Dennis Dart new in September 2001 registered HX51 LRJ, seen parked in the bus lay-over bays in Park Terrace, Cambridge. It had operated the 0720 service 17 from Stetchworth which arrived in Cambridge at 0830 and went on to work the 0855 service 16 to Haverhill.

The University Arms Hotel dominates the background. The hotel was gutted and re-built between 2014-2018 although the façade seen here was retained.

The smaller building on the left behind the bus is Hobbs Pavilion named after Sir John ‘Jack’ Berry Hobbs (1882-1963) a famous Cambridge born cricketer. He started learning the game on Parker’s Piece, the wide open grassland space where cricket matches, concerts and gatherings are held in addition to where students congregate. The previous month more than 5,000 people gathered there to watch the FIFA World Cup matches on giant television screens.
