SELNEC PTE 3625 (UNB 625) and 3629 (UNB 629) in Rochdale - Oct 1972

SELNEC PTE 3625 (UNB 625) and 3629 (UNB 629) in Rochdale - Oct 1972
October 1972 - The SELNEC PTE (South East Lancashire North East Cheshire Passenger Transport Executive) was created in 1969 and absorbed 11 former municipally owned transport undertakings. The largest constituent was Manchester City Transport.

SELNEC PTE 3625 (UNB 625) and 3629 (UNB 629) were Leyland Atlantean PDR1/1 chassis with MCW bodywork, two of the batch of early model Atlanteans entered service with Manchester City Transport in April 1960 numbered 3621-3630 (UNB 621-630). Under SELNEC former MCT vehicles retained their MCT fleet numbers with the vehicles of the other constituents receiving higher renumbered fleet numbers.

They were seen on the Smith Street bus park in Rochdale and still carried the former MCT livery. Sister vehicle 3623 was present also, all rare sighting in Rochdale, and with some help received from acquaintances on the SCT'61 forum, it would seem the three buses were quite likely on football specials relating to a Rochdale v Bolton football match on Saturday 21 October 1972. (which I am told was a 2-2 draw). (which was a 2-2 draw).
