De Lijn 5934 (1499 P) at Mechelen - 1 Feb 1993

Monday 1 February 1993 (approx. 1445) – De Lijn 5934 (1499 P), a DAF powered Van Hool A120 integral new to NMVB in April 1982, had just set down at Mechelen on service 51B from Heist-op-den-Berg and Herentals.

I had just travelled on it from Heist-op-den-Berg and managed to get this photograph as the driver made off.
In 1991 Belgium’s national bus and tramway company was split, the northern part serving Flanders became De Lijn.

The bus in the background is De Lijn 4499 (ABB 343) one of the 115 short length Van Hool AU124 buses added to the NMVB fleet to operate local services in various towns and cities. It carries a colourful livery for the Mechelen town network branded ‘Die Mechelbus’.
