Kolbeinn Erlendsson’s Mercedes-Benz coach R 364 on the F225 road in the Krokagiljabrun region of Iceland’s central highlands - 22 July 2002 (492-03)

Many lesser roads in Iceland are just gravel or dirt surfaced and in the highlands involve crossing stony river fords. In this view our tour coach, Mercedes-Benz R 364 operated by Kolbeinn Erlendsson, was seen heading west on the F225 in the Krokagijabrun region through ash deposited in a past volcanic eruption by Mount Hekla. Rugged high chassis 4x4 coaches are an obvious choice for operations in these remote highlands. The coach still carried the livery of Guðmundur Jónasson hf from whom it had been acquired secondhand.
