THE HOUSE OF THE MONKS. In the heart of the Brocéliande forest, on the edge of the Paimpont pond, the abbey forms a rather imposing architectural ensemble composed mainly of a large building, now housing the presbytery and the town hall, extended by the abbey church dedicated to Notre-Dame de Paimpont.
Founded in the 7th century, the abbey, which was then only a modest priory, was destroyed in the 9th century during the Norman invasions. At the end of the 11th century, a Romanesque church was rebuilt; It is undoubtedly from this period that date the oldest walls (west facade, buttresses). In the 13th century, the Romanesque church was transformed into the Gothic style. The north-south oriented building called "Le Grand Logis" was erected in the 17th century to house the Augustinian monks.
