Combwich Wharf (PiP) HFF
Evening light on Combwich Wharf on the River Parrett, Somerset.
Once the site of an ancient ferry crossing the port was used for the export of local goods and import of timber from the 15th Century. The village was the centre for brick and tile making from as long ago as 1842, and it served as the local brick and coal yard until the 1930s when the creek silted up.
The spur of water that served the wharf is known as Combwich Pill and Combwich wharf is currently being used for the delivery of large equipment for use on the Hinkley Point C power station
The PiP shows an historic channel marker buoy at the wharf.
I have added a song by the Grateful Dead, - 'Wharf Rats'
