Huhn des Waldes - Chicken of the wood - Poulet des bois

Recently, while hiking through a mixed beech forest, I discovered a mushroom that could be seen from a great distance because of its size (almost 40 cm in the lower part!) and its bright yellow-orange color. It was, as I found out at home, the sulphur polypore (Laetiporus sulphureus), a dangerous tree parasite that aggressively destroys the tree trunk and ultimately leads to the death of the tree. In this case, the parasitization was very strong, because there was also a massive mushroom body on the other side of the tree trunk.
Wikipedia informed me that young, juicy specimens can be eaten and taste like chicken. Corresponding recipes exist on the internet. Hence the name "Chicken of the Woods" for this mushroom in the English-speaking world.
