Bienenfutter - Bee food

The green hellebore (Helleborus viridis) is very poisonous for us humans, but its pollen and nectar are an important source of food for insects flying in spring (bees, bumblebees, etc.). As with other Helleborus species, the nectar is offered to the flower visitors in small cups, the so-called nectaries (see note). The photo was taken in the Ringpark Würzburg, where several handsome specimens of this plant are currently in flower.
