Tomatillo (Physalis philadelphica)

The Tomatillo (Physalis philadelphica) is a plant species in the the nightshade family (Solanaceae) and thus related to tomatoes and potatoes. It is especially known in Central America for its fruits used as vegetables. The lantern-shaped fruit husk (see PiP), which contains the spherical fruit, which is harvested green but ripens yellow, is particularly striking. The tomatillo is related to the Cape gooseberry (Physalis peruviana), the pineapple cherry (Physalis pruinosa) and the decorative but inedible lampion flower (Physalis alkekengi).
My wife and I grow tomatillo in the garden and use it for Salsa Verde and other Mexican dishes.

Best wishes and keep safe. Herb
I used to have Chinese gooseberry in my garden. There were many of them and I liked them for their decorative effect but they never ripened enough. I should have made chutney with them, but I didn't think of it at the time!
