Das Grab am Main - The grave at the Main river

Würzburg is one of the cities that were bombed several times in the last weeks of the Second World War. Almost 4000 people fell victim to the heaviest attack on the evening of 16 March 1945. The historic old town was destroyed to 90%. The many dead were buried in a mass grave outside the main cemetery. In the middle of the mass grave area, a memorial slab by the Würzburg sculptor Fried Heuler was set into the ground in 1954, the Memorial 16 March 1945. It symbolically represents a man, a woman and two children larger than life in rigor mortis, see also the PiP.
Never war again! Never again dictatorship, nationalism, racism, anti-Semitism and violence!
