Die Tradition aus dem 17. Jahrhundert, als die Pest in Aschaffenburg wütete, wird heute noch gepflegt. So gibt es eine Kreuzprozession am Sonntag vor Palmsonntag von der Sandkirche zur Kapuzinerkirche und eine weitere am ersten Sonntag im Oktober von der Sandkirche zur Muttergottespfarrkirche. Übrigens wird in der Sandkirche seit 2011 eine Blutreliquie des seligen Papstes Johannes Paul II. aufbewahrt.
