American pokeweed remedy or poison? The American pokeweed, its natural range is found in North America, in some areas of Eurasia it is a neophyte. In various areas of Europe it is considered an invasive species. Raw, undercooked parts of the plant are poisonous. Vomiting, bloody diarrhoea, dizziness, drop in blood pressure, convulsions, respiratory paralysis which can also lead to death. The berries were formerly used in various countries for dyeing red wine, sugar dyes, textile dye and as ink or as an emetic and laxative, they were also used against rheumatism, autoimmune diseases, glandular swellings, ulcer, bronchitis and cancer, they are said to have analgesic, anti-inflammatory, anti-rheumatic, expectorant and narcotic effects.

Pula, the largest and oldest town in Istria, with a varied history, is today also the tourist and cultural centre of the region, thanks to a good combination of culture from the Roman period, bathing bays and modern tourist facilities, visitors come from all over the world. Pula is best known for its ancient amphitheatre, the Arena of Pula, the second largest arena in the Roman Empire, built between 27 BC and 68 AC and the sixth largest of its kind.

Arena of Pula The Arena is the best-preserved ancient building in Croatia. The limestone walls reach a height of almost 30 metres. The theatre is an imposing oval building, measuring 132 by 105 metres. The 72 arches on the two floors, 64 rectangular openings on the upper floor and 15 gates leading to the arena make it a stadium with a capacity of 23,000 spectators. The amphitheatre was used for gladiatorial games and horse shows. Today it is used for concerts, films and even ice hockey.
