ZsaZsa's spring surprise

22 Nov 2011 75
Behold! A lamb is born, much to everyone's surprise, including - I think - ZsaZsa. We have named him Arni (more correctly, αρνί).

For the first time, we had a 100% hatch rate, with 7 out of 7 eggs hatching in the incubator. Also, no difficult hatches.

Arni ringed & marked

05 Dec 2011 47
Not much choice here: Arni had to be ringed (ie tail) and marked (balls). Arni was pretty good about it, really.

goose pen

12 Dec 2011 85
We've learned that keeping the geese and ducks penned together is NOT such a good idea. For one thing, the geese hog all the food. The ducks get nothing, and geese are well able to feeed themselves from foraging in our yard. So now they have their own pen, and this week they're locked in to get used to the idea. Not happy geese!

duckling nursery

We have had so many ducklings that we have made a separate section at the end of the duck pen especially for ducklings. There is finer wire along the bottom to stop them squeezing through, a pot on its side with hay for a warm shelter, water and food. They seem to be enjoying it. They'll be able to socialise with the ducks next door as well, before joining them at 5 weeks in the pond.
