it's all about gods
In any age and any civilization mankind tried to fill the lack of knowledge, the lack of understanding the universe, the why and wherefore, with spirituality, with gods. with very different gods. That's why religions exist, simply to explain our black box of knowledge, our imperfect ability to understand and to satisfy the curiosity of men. There were gods for thunder and lightning, gods for the storm, there were gods who came on earth and sacrified themselves......and don't forget the most powerful religion today, which is called "captalism",......but science made us know about thunder and lightning, it's all about physics, Darwin made us know about evolution, and some day - maybe - we will know much more about the why and wherefore through the exponential development of scientific progress. My personal problem with religions was always, that it is a pure coincidence to be born in a catholic family and not in another religion. So why should exactly and solely this special religion tell (or "know") the absolute truth? The problem arises, when a religion "knows" the absolute truth, which cannot be true. So I respect all these religions, all these legends, all these cults, all these rites, but I'm convinced, it has not much to do with truth or reality. It's not all about gods (as religions decribe them), I'm convinced, it's rather all about physics and chemistry.
