World Photography Day - August 19th 2021

World Photography Day - August 19th 2021
The Church of the Assumption of Mary in Schwaz (Tyrol). It is one of the most important Gothic churches in Tyrol and one of the few four-nave churches in Europe.

I chose this motif in the district capital of Schwaz for today because I think that the invention of photography brought about similar changes worldwide as the spread of religions or coinage, in which Schwaz also played a significant role. 500 years ago, half of all the silver and copper in the 'Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation ' was mined here. In 1510, Schwaz was therefore the second largest city in Austria with 20,000 inhabitants.

A most interesting write up there Bernhard.. and a crisp bright photograph too... thinking about it a ''half'' of the metals is a lot when put into context...

What a fascinating connection that city has with coins. I never thought of coinage in relation to things that change the world before. But of course you are right. Nice thing to think about along with World Photography Day.

Your photo here is wonderful with the mountains showing in the background. It gives me a feeling like I am there.

I notice that you took this with a samsung phone. Do you use the 'pro' setting in the camera to get such a sharp image from close to far?
