Rund 82 % der grauviehhaltenden Betriebe liegen auf einer Seehöhe von über 1.000 m. Fast das gesamte Jungvieh wird im Sommer gealpt. Ebenso rund 40 % der Kühe. Durch die Genügsamkeit, die ausgeprägte Geländetauglichkeit und Weidetüchtigkeit ist das Tiroler Grauvieh auch auf extensiven Flächen produktiv. Auf Grund seiner Größe, seines Gewichts und der guten Futterverwertung eignet sich das anpassungsfähige Tiroler Grauvieh ausgezeichnet zur schonenden Bewirtschaftung der Wiesen und Weiden.
Im Vorarlberg habe ich im Wald in einem steilen und tiefen Bacheinschnitt gesehen, wie Bauern versuchten mit einer Seilwinde eine abgestürzte recht große Kuh zu retten. Wie es ausgegangen ist weiß ich nicht. Es war nicht schön anzuschauen und es war auch gefährlich für die Menschen.

Schussentäler club has replied to sea-herdorf clubder Almabtrieb ist in diesem Jahr wegen Corona bereits (ohne Publikum) durchgeführt worden. Normalerweise findet er immer am 2. oder 3. Septemberwochenende statt.
