The Aberlady Bay Local Nature Reserve was the first place to be declared a nature reserve in 1952. It consists of habitats such as low tide, salt marshes and sand dunes. The reserve is a large area, it takes some time to visit. In Aberlady you can find a lot of wildflowers, also many local rare species. The birds living in the Resevat are just as diverse, the populations change with the seasons. In autumn over 30,000 Red-legged Geese live here, coming from Iceland to rest and feed before moving on later in winter. In spring and summer many species come from Europe and North Africa. Wheatear, Whitethroat and Blackcap nest locally, along with a few species of waders, including Redshank and Lapwing.

The far view to Fidra Island Fidra is an uninhabited island in the Firth of Forth. The name of the island is attributed to the Old Norse language and is said to refer to the amount of feathers found on the island by the seabird colony. The lighthouse on the island is automated today. With the help of cameras the birds are observed by the Scottish Seabird Centre. The lighthouse on Fidra Island in the Firth of Forth was built in 1885. The lights are visible up to 24 nautical miles. Fidra Island is said to have been the inspiration for Robert Louis Stevenson's book "Treasure Island".

these rocks look similar to those in the foothills of the Alps where there are some conglomerate rocks. My three boys asked each time laughing at such rocks, which concrete mixer was at work here?

Dirleton Kirk a very beautiful sandstone church built in 1612, it replaced the 12th century church in Gullane . Inside the church you can learn a lot about the historical nature of the building. It is the first example of the neoclassical style in Scotland. Gothic battlements were added to the tower in 1836.
