Cycling from Bordeaux Vineyards to the Atlantic Coast / Arcachon
On the way home from the Dune
Basilica Notre Dame - La Chapelle des Marins, known as the Chapel of the Sailors. The Shrine of Our Lady of Arcachon was founded by Franciscans. The chapel was destroyed by a storm in 1624.
A second one was built which was buried under sand in 1721. So in 1722 a third one was built, which we can see today. It is known as the "Chapel of Seafarers".

The chapel suffered sthelchen Unbill, a plunder by bandits in March 1789, an arson attack on 8 January 1986.

Isabelle Barruhet, Marco F. Delminho, , Bill Robinson / kinderbill and 16 other people have particularly liked this photo

A fantastic shot, including the story behind it, which stands like a rock in the surf for the seafarers!
